Press-On Veneers and Other Less Expensive Options to Porcelain Veneers

My advice regarding press-on veneers or other less expensive options can be quickly summed up with one phrase: Don’t do it!

Occasionally a patient will tell me that they got another quote or know someone who can get veneers for a low price, but I always tell them that I can guarantee that they won’t get the same result, and I stand by that.

Here’s what your cosmetic dentist won’t tell you about press-on veneers or other less expensive alternatives.

A proper veneers case needs to:

  1. Analyze facial features and subtle nuances, and then design the veneer based on those individualized traits.
  2. Fabricate temporaries based on the exact specifications of the smile design.
  3. Characterize teeth individually using artistic adjustments for the temporary veneers.
  4. Pro tip: Permanents not only need to be made to the exact specifications of the temporary veneers, but care must be considered to the underlying tooth structure in order to recognize color differentials. These differentials can properly be addressed in creating the permanent veneers to achieve the desired tooth shade. This is why so many people wind up with “chicklet” looking veneers that are one size fits all for everyone.

Hopefully, this article sheds some light on the subject of press-on veneers compare to porcelain veneers. If your dentist is not explaining these steps to you, then it may be time to look elsewhere.

Keep smiling,

Justin Russo, DDS
